The Milwaukee Jewish Day School (MJDS) is a private, pluralistic school located in the North Shore of Milwaukee. Our families represent and embrace a diverse range of Jewish practices. Our school serves students in K3 through 8th grade. We are seeking a passionate, innovative, and engaging educator who is committed to meeting the needs of all students, collaborating with staff, and partnering with families.
Position OverviewMilwaukee Jewish Day School seeks an experienced, engaging, and compassionate School Counselor to join our faculty and Student Support Team for the school year. The School Counselor focuses on supporting students’ mental health, social-emotional development, and school success. Candidates should embody our core values of Wonder, Empathy, and Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World).
Primary Responsibilities Counseling & Social-Emotional Support- Support students experiencing challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, grief, learning differences, and related concerns
- Design and/or lead culturally responsive SEL lessons and initiatives
- Facilitate conflict resolution among students and support constructive communication with families and staff
- Promote awareness of SEL topics within the school community
- Maintain familiarity with current counseling resources and recommend appropriate supports for students and families
- Serve as an active member of the Student Support Team
- Participate in IEP, 504, and consultation meetings to help develop and monitor student support plans
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and outside professionals to support student success
- Use student data and observations to inform interventions and supports
- Help guide referrals to outside providers when appropriate
- Serve as a resource regarding school-based supports such as tutoring, special education services, or enrichment
- Assist with coordination of student assessments or related services as appropriate
- Strong knowledge of childhood and adolescent development and its impact on learning and relationships
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Experience with crisis response and intervention
- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
- Appropriate licensure or eligibility for licensure in Wisconsin strongly preferred
- Experience working with children in a school or youth-centered setting
- Commitment to supporting the whole child in an academically rigorous, values-driven environment
This is a part-time position with flexible hours an starting date to be determined collaboratively. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and credentials.
