Summary:

The Medical College of Wisconsin seeks a qualified Adjunct Instructor to teach Introduction to Health Disparities Research, a graduate-level course within the MS in Clinical and Translational Science program. This course introduces students to the concepts, frameworks, and evidence base underlying health disparities and health inequities, with emphasis on the relationships between social determinants of health, clinical outcomes, research, policy, and public health practice.

Typically, graduate courses meet once per week for 16–18 weeks. The course has historically been offered as an evening, in-person class; however, we are particularly interested in candidates with availability to teach evening sections or online/asynchronous formats, as student demand for flexible delivery options continues to increase. Enrolled students may include dual degree (MD/MS) students as well as master’s-only students from a range of professional backgrounds.

Anticipated class size is approximately 5–15 students. The Graduate School provides monetary compensation for the instructor(s) and administrative support to support course delivery.

  • Submit final grades in accordance with Graduate School deadlines.
  • Assess student performance through participation, written assignments, and a final project.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student learning.
  • Hold office hours or be available to students by appointment (virtual or in‑person).
  • Participate in program-related meetings as requested.
Qualifications
  • Doctoral or master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Disparities Research, Health Policy, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in health disparities, social determinants of health, and health equity research.
  • Familiarity with the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) research framework preferred.
  • Prior graduate‑level teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience facilitating discussion‑based or evening courses preferred.
  • Experience with online or hybrid teaching formats and learning management systems preferred.
Application Process
