Duty and Responsibilities
  • Provide individual academic, personal, and career counseling to assigned students.
  • Work directly with students in schools, homes, community settings, and on campus to support academic progress, persistence, and postsecondary readiness.
  • Engage families and guardians as partners in the student’s educational journey through communication, meetings, and outreach.
  • Monitor and assess individual student academic progress, engagement, and persistence in high school and college-preparatory coursework.
  • Meet regularly with assigned students to establish challenging academic and personal goals and develop educational plans aligned with high school completion, college admission, and degree attainment.
  • Assist students with college planning processes, including college selection, applications, essays, financial aid awareness, and letters of recommendation.
  • Provide proactive follow-up and intervention for students experiencing academic, personal, or social barriers that may impact retention or performance.
  • Refer students and families to appropriate campus and community resources to support holistic student success.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, service notes, and student evaluations within EOP data and tracking systems.
  • Facilitate and support Pre-College and College Access initiatives, including Upward Bound style programming, summer bridge programs, and academic-year services.
  • Serve as a liaison with secondary schools, Marquette University offices, academic departments, families, and community partners.
  • Support recruitment, outreach, interviewing, and selection of program participants.
  • Plan, facilitate, and deliver workshops related to personal development, leadership development, college readiness, academic skill-building, and career exploration.
  • Assist with training, supervision, and coordination of peer mentors, tutors, and student support staff.
  • Monitor and coordinate tutoring and supplemental academic support services.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of culturally responsive enrichment, college exposure, and engagement programming.
  • Support alumni engagement and mentorship efforts, including maintaining alumni contact, tracking outcomes, and facilitating mentorship connections between current students and alumni.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen mentoring structures that promote belonging, persistence, and long-term student success.
  • Assist with stipend requests, distribution, and reconciliation in compliance with program and University guidelines.
