Japanese

Language Instructor. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching all levels of Japanese language courses and teaching upper-division elective courses in Japanese as needed by the program. The instructor will also participate in organizing and promoting program events.##

Job Responsibilities:

*** Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
* Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy
* Supervises the day to day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
* Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
* Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
* Assists in developing techniques and/or model programs for carrying out instructional goals in disciplinary area and may help identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistance##

Description:

** The Japanese Program is one of ten programs in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, which is housed in the College of Letters and Science. The program offers language classes up to eighth semester and culture classes in both English and Japanese at both lower and upper division levels. Students have the option to major or minor or earn an Asian Studies Certificate.##

** Compensation:**$30,355 - $38,500

* Required Qualifications:

*** MAinLinguistics,Second Language Acquisition ,orarelatedfield.
* Two or moreyearsofteachingexperienceatthepost-secondary level, or at least 4 years teaching at the primary, intermediate or secondary levels.
* Strongcommitmenttoteachingexcellenceandstudentengagement.
* Abilitytoworkcollaborativelywithinadiverseacademiccommunity.
* Minimum Superior (ACTFL), or C2 (CEFR) level ability in all Japanese language skills:  listening, reading, speaking and writing.

* Preferred Qualifications:

*** Experience organizing events.
* Experience using the course management system Canvas.
* Experience developing Open Access Resources for student use.
* Ability to teach either Chinese or Korean language.##
