Overview
JOB SUMMARY:
Special Education Teacher (bilingual strongly preferred) develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows state‑mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students.
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education.
- License:
Cross‑Categorical Special Education.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education and the ability to accommodate/modify materials to meet student needs.
- Collaborate well with staff to plan and implement lessons and materials based on student needs.
- Working knowledge of children identified within the various categories defined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (OHI, SLD, SLI, Autism, etc.).
- Effective teaching of students with disabilities.
- Objective analysis of needs and problems.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration and the general public.
- Discuss students’ progress with parents, other teachers, counselors and administrators.
- Interpret IEPs/MSAs and understand the required needs as stated within them.
- Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups and one‑on‑one.
- Assess students’ skills and determine their educational needs.
- Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
- Willingness to be person‑centered with staff and students.
- Knowledge and willingness to use relevant technology, Google Suites, blended learning platforms, and iPads to individualize instruction.
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of the school district and state.
- Report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
- Knowledge and experience with cultural sensitivity and awareness.
- Flexibility, resilience and adaptability to changing priorities, with a willingness to put students first at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Computer SkillsKnowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Power School software.
Physical DemandsThe employee is regularly required to be mobile; walk; use hands; talk or hear or smell. The employee frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds.
