Carmen Schools of Science & Technology (Carmen) is a public charter school network in Milwaukee, WI with a mission to graduate all students as critical thinkers and self-directed learners prepared for success in college, meaningful careers, community involvement, and family life. The Carmen Schools network includes five schools with 1,900 students in grades 6th–12th.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Athletics & Extracurriculars leads all athletic and extracurricular programming in a founding role at Carmen’s Southgate campus, serving fulfillment approximately 1,100 students. This role oversees coach recruitment and supervision, athletics logistics, after-school clubs, and evening/summer building use. The Director of Athletics & Extracurriculars ensures that programs reflect Carmen’s core values of Empathy, Belief, and Growth
, and that all offerings are equitable, safe, organized, and accessible to every student. Additionally, the Director of Athletics & Extracurriculars creates relationships with our local community, developing opportunities for space utilization that benefits=[] the Southgate neighborhood.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, sports management, or related field.
  • Experience in athletic administration, coaching, or school-based leadership.
  • Strong relationship‑building, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and summer hours.

Preferred

  • Experience in an urban, high performing school environment.
  • Knowledge of WIAA rules and athletic compliance systems.
  • Bilingual proficiency (Spanish) strongly preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES Program & Staff Leadership
  • Recruit, hire, and develop high-quality coaches and club advisors who embody Carmen’s core values.

  • Manage scheduling, transportation, officials, equipment, and all event logistics.
  • Manage student‑athlete eligibility across all required platforms, maintaining accurate rosters and a centralized tracker to ensure full WIAA and district compliance.
  • Oversee after‑school club programming to ensure strong participation and consistent supervision.
  • Ensure compliance with WIAA, district policies, eligibility requirements, and safety standards.
Budget, Compliance & Safety
  • Develop and manage athletic and activitiesagay Ritz invols.
  • Oversee procurement and maintenance of coaching gear, team uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
  • Implement and monitor safety protocols, emergency procedures, and risk‑management practices.
Facilities & Building Utilization
  • Coordinate and supervise after‑school, evening, and summer use of athletic facilities and shared spaces.
