Student Involvement is seeking an undergraduate or graduate UWM student to serve in the Leadership Program Assistant (LPA) role. This position assists the office in its goal to help UWM students become active campus leaders. Members of the team will have the opportunity to further develop and apply their leadership skills through the planning of large-scale programs and smaller workshops for students.
Team members will also gain experience in other areas such as public speaking, small-group facilitation, mentoring, administration, and marketing.
Participate in on-going leadership training
Serve as a student coordinator for signature leadership events
Facilitate workshops through our workshops by-request program
Represent Student Involvement at campus events such as Orientation, Fall Welcome, Student Involvement Fair, and others
Assist with one of the program’s sessions or special events, which may include planning, facilitating, or presenting components, in conjunction with professional or graduate staff members. Responsibilities may also include coordination of event logistics
Recruit, schedule, and facilitate communication with event speakers and facilitators
Advance communication and marketing efforts for leadership programs. This may include the use of social media, websites, promotional tables, flyer distribution, e-mail and personal communication
Attend leadership team staff meetings with graduate and professional staff
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:Must be a currently enrolled UW-Milwaukee undergraduate or graduate student, possess a 2.75 GPA or higher and must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal)

- Able to manage multiple projects at the same time, prioritize tasks, manage time, and work under pressure.
- Can maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
- Has experience working with diverse populations.
- Possess a strong commitment to customer service.
- Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and social media.
- Ability to communicate in a clear, courteous, and professional manner.
Skills and Abilities:
- Past participation in leadership development activities (on or off campus).
- Experience working in an office setting.
- Exemplary proofreading skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working with databases and general record keeping.
- Public speaking and group facilitation skills.
- Prior experience planning events.
- Ability to present oneself effectively in a professional, respectable, and friendly manner when communicating with diverse customers, supervisors, co-workers, and other student staff.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude when learning new skills and working with challenging customers.
- Marketing and communications strategies.
- Ability to solve problems and work independently and as part of a team.
Student can select the hours they would like to work, between Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm, with occasional requests for evening/weekend work l work around class schedule.
