About Horton’s Kids: Horton’s Kids is a community-based organization working to drive positive change in the lives of 500 children in grades K – 12 living in two of the most under-resourced communities in southeast Washington, DC. These communities are home to children and families with big dreams and the potential needed to achieve them. However, decades of disinvestment and systemic racism have created unfair barriers to access for these families.

Horton’s Kids works to remove these barriers and even the playing field by providing comprehensive academic, social-emotional, health and wellness, and family engagement support.

Job Description: Horton’s Kids is seeking a College and Career (CCR) Program Assistant to support the planning and implementation of CCR academic programs for participants in 9th- 12th Grade. These programs include homework help, tutoring, and 1:1 coaching and post-secondary planning. The position reports directly to the Sr. Director of Programs and collaborates with all youth programs staff. The CCR Program Assistant must make a year-long commitment for the school year, with availability to work Monday through Thursday 3:30pm-7:30pm.

The program year runs from September 12th through May 30th.

The ideal candidate is flexible and collaborative, with excellent relationship building, behavior management, and communication skills. The starting rate of pay for the CCR Youth Programs Assistant position is $19-$21 per hour.

• Lead weekly discussion groups centered on College and Career Readiness
• Co-create and implement individual post-secondary success plans
• Plan and attend quarterly CCR Exposure Field Trips
• Track program attendance and academic assessments, including inputting data into Excel and Salesforce
• Use strong customer service skills to ensure all volunteers and tutors are successful

• Implement Horton’s Kids behavior management strategies and procedures across youth programs
• Facilitate small-group social-emotional curriculum programs
• Coach a caseload of HS participants in 1:1 monthly session on goal setting and executive function skills
• Build meaningful and authentic relationships with high school participants, helping them to identify their future goals/desires and design a pathway to achieve them
• Build positive relationships with all students, families, and community members

• 2+ years of experience working directly with middle or high school aged children in either a classroom or OST setting. Experience working with children from a similar background as Horton’s Kids participants is preferred.
• Understanding of College and Career Readiness best practices
• Strong behavior management and relationship building skills
• Ability to facilitate whole group and small group lessons
• Comfortable working on a team, adapting quickly to changes, and receiving feedback
• Applicants must have a reliable method of transportation as community centers are not metro-accessible
