Job SummaryThe primary function of the Seasonal Public Relations & Communications Assistant is to develop clear, accurate, and timely communications, such as press releases, talking points, and press event materials, and to serve as a key liaison between Parks leadership, staff, and the media. This position will ensure consistent, professional, and well‑coordinated communication of Parks initiatives, programs, and leadership priorities to the public and news media, including the planning and execution of press events.
This role supports transparency, public awareness, and effective information flow by managing media inquiries, facilitating interviews, and assisting with project coordination for special initiatives, enabling Milwaukee County Parks to communicate effectively with the community, stakeholders, and partners.
- Assist the Field Marketing Coordinator in drafting and coordinating effective communication materials, including press releases, media alerts, talking points, newsletter emails, and quotes to ensure consistent and impactful messaging. Develop press event run‑of‑show documents and prepare calendar invitations for appropriate staff. Manage media inquiries and facilitate and coordinate interview requests.
- Assist the Director of Administration with project management for special initiatives, including managing email outreach to external contacts, tracking responses, maintaining organized records, and providing regular status updates.
- Set up press events with necessary equipment such as podium and speakers. Come prepared with extra copies of talking points for leadership and copies of the press release for the media.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- Possession of a valid United States Driver's License and Personal Vehicle, both able to be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
- Intermediate knowledge of setting up a microphone and speaker system with Bluetooth capabilities.
- Able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 30 lbs.
- Willing and able to have on‑call availability and work irregular, unpredictable, or particularly long hours.
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher in Marketing.
- Previous experience with Microsoft Suite, Send Grid, Adobe Illustrator, , Ai Platforms, and Canva.
- Previous Agency experience.
This original application is open to permanent residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residency in the state of Wisconsin within six months of start date and maintain such residency during incumbency. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non‑competitive examination will be held for this position. The non‑competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
