POSITION SUMMARY

The Day Camp Kitchen Coordinator manages all aspects of the food service operations for PEAK’s Milwaukee day camps, and will work to upkeep safe and clean spaces for all program participants and staff.

POSITION AVAILABILITY

This position is 40 hours per week and must be available Monday - Friday, June 16 - August 7, working 7:45 am - 4:15 pm each day.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
  • Oversee the daily operations of the day camp kitchen, including managing camper dietary restrictions and food-based health needs, providing and maintaining daily meal count documents, coordinating the process for supply purchasing and inventory, sanitizing the kitchen etc.
  • Responsible for light custodial work and space reset after each meal and after snack time.
  • Ensure the kitchen and community room is safe and usable.
  • Haul garbage, recycling, and compost for proper disposal throughout the camp day.
  • Oversee food service operations and meal tracking for the Summer Food Program, ensuring all nutritional requirements are met, required documentation is recorded, meal counts are submitted timely.
  • Work within a budget to manage inventory and place food and supply orders.
  • Supervise kitchen aides and high school interns.
  • May be asked to fill in, as needed, in various other capacities to support Day Camp in achieving its mission.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • This position is compensated at a rate of $850 per week, pre-tax.
  • Summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees.

  • Must be detail-oriented and able to document accurately.
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and coaching from supervisor and make necessary adjustments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers to achieve program objectives.
  • Ability to support, and work with all camper age ranges at camp.
  • Commitment to being punctual and adhering to a schedule provided by camp leadership.
  • Possess strong communications skills and apply them with coworkers and supervisors, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive staff and camper information when necessary.
  • Ability to perform job duties in a fast-paced environment and able to embrace change and be flexible.
  • Ability to provide job coaching constructively to team members.
  • While not required, bilingualism (Spanish/English) would be beneficial.
EDUCATIONAL, CERTIFICATIONS, & LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
  • Must at least be 19 and have a high school diploma/GED before the position start date to apply.
  • Must be able to pass PEAK’s motor vehicle background check and driver training and safely drive/transport adults and children in PEAK vehicles, including a 12-passenger van.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (PEAK can support in attaining).
  • Safe Serv Food Safety certification is required (PEAK can support in attaining).
REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS
  • The Day Camp Kitchen Coordinator reports directly to the Program & Operations Coordinator.
  • The Day Camp Kitchen Coordinator will supervise several high school Interns (LTs) and a full-time seasonal Kitchen and Facilities Specialist.
  • The Day Camp Kitchen Coordinator will also work closely with the Youth Program Manager, Director of Finance and Operations, and Operations Manager.
