Summary

This position is located in the Maintenance Branch, Support Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, Naval Station, Milton, Florida. The purpose is to assist in maintaining all equipment and facilities in optimum operating condition, and to repair or replace any inoperative equipment.

Duties

The incumbent will assist in performing maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of crafts and trades, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical repairs. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist maintenance workers in general maintenance, repair, and alterations to items such as doors, floors, walls, ceilings, windows, electrical switches, receptacles, light fixtures, toilets, washbasins, and showers.
  • Assist with repair of recreation/mess equipment and appliances and related custodial duties.
  • Assist with simple plumbing repairs: replacing faucets or washers, repairing toilet flushing devices, clearing clogged drains, tightening leaking pipe joints, and performing light maintenance on air conditioning units.
  • Assist with minor electrical repairs: switches, boxes, electric lights, fuses, and fixtures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must meet federal employment suitability requirements and successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Must successfully pass an E‑Verify employment verification check; any discrepancies must be resolved.
  • Must complete a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process requiring two forms of identification from the Form I‑9.
  • May be required to pass pre‑employment examinations.
  • A valid state driver’s license is required to operate motor vehicles.
  • Must be able to have salary sent to a financial institution by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience directly related to the duties described above, demonstrating the following:

  • Knowledge in general carpentry and painting, and a working knowledge of basic shop machines and their safe operating procedures.
  • Practical knowledge of the general trades involved in maintenance work.
  • Familiarity with basic tools and materials required for routine repairs to buildings and ground structures.

Experience may include paid work, volunteer, or part‑time service. All positions must detail duties, responsibilities, and hours per week.

Key Conditions of Employment

  • Males must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
  • Suitable for federal employment; may require successful completion of a probationary period.
  • Participation in the direct deposit pay program is required.
  • Social Security Card must be provided.
  • Satisfying an employment verification (E‑VERIFY) check is mandatory.
  • A favorable background is a requirement; failure to maintain may result in withdrawal or removal.

Relocation

  • No payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) is authorized as a PCS move is not in the government interest.
