Position Overview

We are offering a fast paced, career elevating opportunity at our candy plant in Milton, Ontario. The expectation for every employee of this unique and flexible facility is to work cooperatively as part of the team to produce safe, high quality food products, efficiently and effectively. As an integral team member you will be required to help out as needed to accomplish this goal, regardless of the position, consistent with Dare values.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) program in compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), regulations, and other applicable standards.
  • Maintain and update health and safety policies, procedures, and training records.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the plant floor, equipment, and processes to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Deliver safety orientation sessions for new hires and provide ongoing training for employees on workplace safety, emergency procedures, WHMIS, and food safety-related safety protocols.
  • Support and track mandatory safety certifications for employees (e.g., First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, forklift safety).
  • Assist in the investigation of workplace incidents, accidents, near misses, and occupational illnesses, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Prepare reports, maintain incident logs, and track corrective actions for continuous improvement.
  • Liaise with the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and support meeting coordination and follow-ups.
  • Monitor legislative updates and ensure company practices align with provincial and federal requirements (e.g., OHSA, WSIB, MOL guidelines).
  • Assist with Ministry of Labour inspections, audits, and other regulatory visits.
  • Support environmental health and safety compliance related to food manufacturing standards (e.g., sanitation, PPE use, confined space procedures).
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, awareness campaigns, and recognition programs.
  • Analyze safety trends and recommend improvements in processes, equipment, or work practices.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and quality teams to integrate safety into daily operations.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline.
  • Certification or working towards certification (e.g., Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or equivalent) preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WSIB requirements, and applicable food manufacturing regulations.
  • Experience working as a Health and Safety Coordinator in food manufacturing, production, or industrial environment for 2 years is a requirement.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and incident management software.
  • Primarily plant‑floor based role in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ability to train and influence employees at all levels.
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
  • Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support audits, training, or incident investigations.
