Job Responsibilities:
This role is responsible to the YJESS Manager and involves supporting the day-to-day operational and strategic management of the team, ensuring that Youth Justice Services are available for children and young people in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Key responsibilities include:
Holding casework responsibility, supervising and developing staff, managing risks, and making oversight decisions as part of the Youth Justice Early Support Service Management Team.
Implementing, developing, and reviewing the Council’s Policies and the Youth Justice Service plan in accordance with changing legislation and practice.
Ensuring services are available for children and young people on a one-to-one and group work basis, including out of court;
Diversion and Prevention, and post Court supervision of community and custodial Orders based on assessed need.
Providing Court Officers and producing Pre Sentence Reports to assist the Court in making informed sentencing decisions in line with National Standards.
Maintaining the quality of the Assessment, Planning, Intervention, and Supervision (APIS) functions within the Assetplus Framework of the Case Management Team under the guidance of the YJESS Manager.
Demonstrating the ability to analyze complex data, balance public protection, safeguarding, and broader development issues.
Ensuring the Case Management Team complies with National Standards for Youth Justice, Case Management Guidance, and the YJESS Risk Led Policy in relation to the supervision, delivery of interventions, review, and closure of cases in line with the Scaled Approach.
Managing the YJESS duty system to ensure that children and young people have access to Appropriate Adults, YJESS representation at Court, and other services such as Bail Support and ISS packages, both in and out of office hours.
Person Specification
Must Have:
Experience in casework responsibility and staff supervision.
Knowledge of Youth Justice Services and related legislation.
Ability to manage risks and make informed oversight decisions.
Proficiency in analyzing complex data and balancing various issues such as public protection and safeguarding.
Familiarity with National Standards for Youth Justice and Case Management Guidance.
Capability to manage duty systems and ensure service availability out of office hours.
Nice to Have:
Experience in producing Pre Sentence Reports for court proceedings.
Understanding of the Assetplus Framework and the Scaled Approach.
Background in working with children and young people in justice settings.
