OverviewAs a nurse‑led minor injury unit within a busy emergency department, #TeamMKUH are looking for experienced Band 7 emergency nurse/paramedic practitioners with an empirical knowledge base and decision‑making skills to work autonomously with minor injuries and illnesses.
You will collaborate with a dynamic and supportive team of adult and child nurses, doctors and other multidisciplinary members. Whether leading clinical audits, contributing to service development or participating in training initiatives, you will have the chance to grow professionally while shaping the quality of healthcare services for Milton Keynes and the wider community.
Essential Requirements- Current NMC registration with an Advanced Clinical Practice MSc/Pg Dip (or working towards). Completion of an accredited minor injuries and minor illness/physical assessment qualification is essential.
- Experience as an autonomous practitioner in a community and/or emergency setting.
- Skills in X‑ray interpretation, fracture management and wound closure.
- Independent Nurse Prescriber qualification is advantageous.
- Ability to work 10‑ or 12‑hour shifts to provide service until midnight.

The post holder will be an advanced practitioner with expert knowledge and skills in efficiently managing patients with minor injuries/illnesses, without reference to a doctor and within agreed protocols.
Key responsibilities:
- Act as an expert practitioner demonstrating advanced clinical competence beyond conventional nursing roles.
- Ensure safe and efficient management of the Minor Injuries area, assessing workload and delegating appropriately.
- Deliver high‑quality clinical care in a timely manner.
- Supply and administer medicines in accordance with Patient Group Directions.
- Develop holistic practice as a non‑medical prescriber and attend appropriate training to achieve this.
Professional duties include adherence to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and HPC standards, maintaining confidentiality, and providing an annual review of the service.
Management duties involve providing clinical, operational and management support, managing departmental demands and promoting effective communication networks across the division and the Trust.
Educational and personal development duties: maintain an excellent learning environment, teach, support clinical practice and develop knowledge/skills, fulfil revalidation requirements and participate in your own developmental plan.
Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge- NMC or HCPC registration
- First‑Level registration nurse or registered paramedic
- ENP – Minor Injuries Course at Level 6/7 Advanced Nurse Practitioner PgDip / MSc (RCN accredited) or BSc Hons in Emergency Care / MSc / PgC (ECP qualification)
- Independent prescribing
- Minor Illnesses Course at Level 6/7
- Up to date knowledge of DoH and NICE guidelines.
- Knowledge of IT/library searches.
- Evidence of audit or research experience.
- Significant experience in an Emergency Department/Urgent Treatment Care setting.
- Teaching, research and evidence‑based practice experience.
- Significant experience as a team leader.
- Diagnosis and management of minor injuries including fractures, burns, lacerations, minor eye injuries, soft‑tissue injuries.
- Ability to work with and use PGDs.
- Diagnosis and management of minor illnesses, providing evidence‑based advice and management, including appropriate prescribing when required.
- Ability to be flexible, demonstrate initiative and work in a team.

Salary£47,810 to £54,710 a year – pro rata.
