Milton Keynes University Hospital has the exciting opportunity for two full‑time Clinical Oncology Consultants linked with honorary contracts to Oxford University Hospital.
The successful candidates will have completed specialist training in Clinical Oncology and hold MRCP or evidence of equivalent training and experience. The role supports the busy established practice within the breast, urology and gynae departments and facilitates high‑quality clinical care and research.
Main duties- Provide day‑to‑day outpatient and inpatient care for breast and colorectal cancer patients within multidisciplinary teams.
- Administer radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment provisions.
- Attend the weekly multidisciplinary meetings.
- Supervise patients in the Day Unit for systemic and supportive therapies.
- Develop oncology services across the organisation and participate in recruitment to and development of cancer research studies.
- Provide ward coverage and acute oncology service including ward rounds and inpatient advice.
- Teach and contribute to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education.
- Engage in job planning, appraisal cycles and contribute to the appraisal of doctors in training.
- Cover consultant colleagues' leave periods as per Trust policy.
- Respond to emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
- Support a 1:5 weekend cover.
- Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligibility for registration within six months of interview).
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview.
- MRCP(UK) or equivalent.
- FRCR (Clinical Oncology) or equivalent.
- Postgraduate experience at specialist registrar or senior registrar level, including a period of equivalent responsibility.
- Experience in relevant oncological sub‑specialties / tumour sites.
- Experience in Acute Oncology.
- Enthusiasm for developing tumour site specialisation and cancer services.
- Strong organisational and management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to motivate and develop training medical staff.
- Team working and cooperation with all staff.
- Capacity to work independently and under pressure as part of the Oncology team.
- Balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust.
- Proof of immunisation against Hepatitis B and negative Hbs Ag status.
- Full UK driving licence (or alternative means of accessing hospitals in Oxford and Milton Keynes).
- Residence within 10 miles of the hospital or within half an hour travel time for on‑call commitments.
- Willingness to take part in Clinical Directorate Management.
- Appraisal of research and understanding of evidence‑based medicine.
- Principles of audit and participation in oncology‑based research.
- Publications in peer‑reviewed journals in oncology.

Salary and DetailsConsultant – £109,725 to £145,478 per annum (pro rata).
