R&D Engineer

Akkodis is seeking an R&D Engineer for a Contract with a client in Milpitas, CA. Candidates must have extensive human‑factors experience to lead usability strategy while conducting user research and driving design improvements across the product lifecycle.

$50/hour to $60/hour; the rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

• Leading human factors activities across the product development lifecycle, including task analyses, usability risk assessments, and development of complete usability engineering files.
• Designing and conducting formative and validation usability studies for hardware–software diabetes care systems, including developing novel research methods to understand user performance and needs.
• Translating usability findings into actionable design recommendations and influencing cross‑functional teams to ensure product designs meet user needs and regulatory expectations.
• Applying advanced human factors, cognitive, and ergonomic principles to guide product definition, interface design, and evaluation of new and existing concepts.
• Collaborating with Design, Product Management, Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality to support product requirements, submission strategies, and compliance with evolving usability regulations.
• Rapidly assimilating complex domain knowledge to advise teams on HF strategies, deliverables, research plans, and successful execution within project timelines.

• M.S. in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, or Biomedical Engineering (with extensive human factors coursework).
• Minimum 8+ years of human factors/usability engineering experience in hardware–software product development (10+ years preferred).
• Proven ability to lead usability engineering activities—including task analyses, risk analyses, and formative/validation studies—within medical device development.
• Demonstrated expertise applying user‑centered design principles and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to influence product definition and design.
