About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced R&D Human Factors Engineer to support the design and development of innovative hardware-software products. This role requires strong expertise in human factors, usability engineering, and user-centered design. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products are intuitive, safe, and aligned with regulatory usability standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply human factors and ergonomics principles to the definition, design, and evaluation of complex systems.
  • Lead usability engineering activities throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain usability engineering files, task analyses, and usability risk analyses.
  • Plan and conduct usability studies, including formative testing of early prototypes and validation testing of final product designs.
  • Design research methods to understand user behavior, performance, and expectations.
  • Identify unmet user needs and design opportunities and influence product improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Design, Product Management, Technical Leadership, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality.
  • Support regulatory submissions by contributing usability documentation and addressing regulatory feedback.
  • Ensure usability engineering processes align with industry standards and regulatory expectations.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 8+ years of human factors or usability engineering experience in hardware-software product development (10+ years preferred).
  • Strong experience applying user-centered design and usability engineering principles, ideally within regulated industries.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, including other human factors specialists.
  • Experience defining human factors strategy and research plans across product development programs.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to balance user advocacy with collaborative product development.
Education
  • Master’s degree in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, or
  • Biomedical Engineering with extensive Human Factors coursework
