The company is seeking a Senior Human Factors Engineer to support research and development initiatives focused on healthcare product development. This role applies human factors and usability engineering principles to guide product design, usability strategy, and validation activities across the product lifecycle. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure products meet user needs, safety standards, and regulatory expectations. This position plays a key role in translating user insights into actionable design improvements for hardware and software systems.
Key Responsibilities- Apply human factors and ergonomics principles to support the design and evaluation of healthcare technology products.
- Conduct usability engineering activities including task analysis, usability risk analysis, and usability testing throughout the product lifecycle.
- Design and execute formative and validation usability studies for prototypes and final product designs.
- Develop and maintain usability engineering documentation and files in accordance with regulatory expectations.
- Analyze human performance data and translate findings into insights that influence product design decisions.
- Advocate for user needs and capabilities while collaborating with engineering, design, and product management teams.
- Partner with regulatory teams to support product submissions and respond to regulatory agency inquiries.
- Collaborate with quality teams to ensure usability engineering practices align with regulatory guidance and internal processes.
- Identify unmet user needs and opportunities to improve product usability and safety.
- Present usability findings and recommendations to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Master’s degree in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, or Biomedical Engineering with significant human factors coursework.
- Minimum eight years of human factors or usability engineering experience within regulated product development environments.
- Experience applying user-centered design principles within hardware, software, or integrated product systems.
- Experience conducting human factors research and usability testing throughout product development.
- Strong understanding of human performance principles including cognitive, perceptual, and motor capabilities
. - Ability to synthesize research findings and communicate insights clearly through written reports and presentations.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering, quality, and regulatory teams
. - Excellent verbal communication, written communication, and presentation skills.
- Experience supporting medical device or healthcare technology development
. - Experience with usability validation studies and regulatory submission documentation
. - Experience influencing design decisions through data-driven human factors research
. - Ability to work independently while managing multiple project priorities.
