Job Summary
Long-term assignment: 01/22/2026 - 06/08/2026
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Provides support to handicapped students in school environment.
- Maintains a caseload average of 24 students and coordinates their individual education programs.
- Assesses students referred through special educational referral process and measures educational and social development.
- Participates in a multidisciplinary team to determine students’ needs, goals, and objectives for individualized education plans.
- Provides direct instruction for remediation of specific disabilities.
- Assists students in regular program instruction.
- Modifies individual educational programs based on continuous evaluation.
- Consults and serves as a resource person with staff and parents regarding needs of handicapped students.
- Communicates with school personnel and parents to explain student behavior and learning needs for implementation of strategies.
- Collaborates with appropriate resources and professionals in the special education program.
- Participates in seminars, workshops, and classes to enhance professional standards.
- Continues independent professional growth through journals and other resources.
- Maintains files and reports of special education students as required by federal, state, and district regulations.
- Bachelor of Arts Degree and three (3) years full‑time teaching or experience, including two (2) years teaching Special Education.
- Master’s Degree or advanced training in special education is recommended.
- Valid California specialist credential with a resource certificate (mild/moderate or moderate/severe).
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Ability to develop needs assessments, create individual learning plans, read and analyze professional literature, and write reports.
- Effective presentation and communication skills with administrators, staff, students, and parents.
- Problem‑solving skills and ability to apply research and theory to program implementation.
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with staff, students, peers, and parents.
Noise level is usually quiet to moderate. Requires standing, walking, sitting, and reaching with hands and arms. Occasionally moves up to 100 pounds with a wheelchair and lifts up to 50 pounds.
