Caja Solidaria is part of a growing network in Western North Carolina practicing food as care. Rooted in local farms, community knowledge, and shared responsibility, we work alongside neighbors, healthcare partners, and the land. We provide healthy meals, meal kits, and markets to our neighbors through prescriptions and collective purchasing.
Job DescriptionThe Farmer / Food System Integrator will work closely with our full-time Co-Lead Farmer, Dennis Lanigan, an experienced grower and founding member of Caja Solidaria. This role is most farm-intensive from May through October, with flexible, mission-aligned responsibilities during the off-season.
Start & End Date: February 1st to Ongoing
Qualifications- Minimum three years of hands-on market farming experience, including some management or leadership responsibility
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors for 6–8+ hours per day in hot, cold, and/or inclement weather
- Demonstrated experience with agronomy and organic soil health practices, particularly suited to the Southeast
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to learn from mistakes and build new skills
- Ability to work respectfully and joyfully with people of diverse skills, identities, ages, backgrounds, and vulnerabilities (including your own!)
- Proven capacity to grow food successfully amid Western North Carolina and Southeastern challenges, including heat, pests, wildlife pressure, heavy rains, disease, weeds, and clay soils
- Current NC Driver’s License with clean driving record
Compensation: $32/hour + Benefits
