Full-Time (40 hours a week)

Reports to

Financial Solutions Manager

Position Purpose

Performs collection activities for defaulted accounts. Locates members or collateral that have skipped out and coordinates with repossession/tow agencies to recover units. Arranges for loans to be paid in full or brought current in a timely manner. Collaborates with auctions to sell collateral. Performs various collection duties and serves as a resource for the department.

Essential Duties, Skills & Abilities
  • Exhibit outstanding member service skills by applying Granite Credit Union Service Standards and Core Values.
  • Efficiently and professionally recovers outstanding assets and debts.
  • Receives reports from the collections system on accounts where collateral has or has not been recovered and organizes accounts for repossession assignments.
  • Performs collection efforts to validate where collateral is located using analytical techniques, investigative tools, and strategies.
  • Negotiates terms to hold or cancel repossessions with sensitivity, tact, and professionalism, ensuring follow-up on arrangements
  • Discusses financial arrangements, suggests refinancing, consolidations, or repossessions as needed.
  • Documents all collection actions, correspondence, and alternative financial arrangements, maintaining accurate and complete collection notes and reports.
  • Keeps management informed of activities, progress attained toward established objectives, and of any significant problems.
  • Identifies accounts that may require legal action and refers to management for proper approval before submitting such action.
  • Coordinates voluntary surrenders to secure collateral when appropriate.
  • Maintains current knowledge of regulations, industry trends, and economic conditions affecting collection functions.
  • Performs collection efforts in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures to ensure they are legally compliant.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Uses effective human relations skills to present a positive Credit Union image, calming upset members by answering questions and addressing complaints related to department functions.
  • Maintains professional and productive relationships with vendors, ensuring effective vendor management and service oversight.
  • Ensure that all information and transactions regarding credit union members are kept confidential.
  • Maintain the security of the work area and keep it organized and neat in appearance.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with all people, including fellow employees, members, management staff, board members, and outside vendors.
  • Promote a professional appearance and attitude.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Basic computer operating skills such as email, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Familiar with the Service member Civil Relief Act, Unfair, Deceptive and Abusive Act Practice and Fair Debt Collections Act.
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Experience
  • At least two years of financial institution experience.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all work performed.
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
Education

High School Diploma or equivalent
