About this opportunity :In this role you'll direct the Technology and Innovation department personnel in the development and commercialization of new technology. The associate director drives the evolution of oligo process improvement, manages a portfolio of technical projects, in various stages of development, which are aimed at continuous improvement and reducing the cost of goods. You'll also oversee external interactions (clients, industry collaborators, Nitto group companies) to ensure application of best technology.
Key Responsibilities:- Manages the T&I project portfolio and group activities, ensuring that objectives and timelines are met. Communicates with Avecia Executive oversights, cross-functional department heads, clients, and internal oligo process subject matter experts for peer review.
- Plans and manages the use of T&I personnel and laboratory resources to drive technology evolution which aims to improve the process and reduce the cost of goods.
- Acts as a liaison between external collaborators and other process groups.
- Ensures responsible onboarding of new and sometimes unique processes in a safe, efficient, and effective manner for future business growth potential.
- Responsible for the recruitment of technical staff to maintain group effectiveness and alignment with relevant scientific subject areas.
- Serves as supervisor for T&I personnel and will develop roles within the group which align with current project portfolio.
- Provides technical guidance and administrative support to personnel acting in Technical Lead roles for both chemistry and engineering.
- Responsible for performance reviews and personal development plans for all T&I personnel.
- Ensures that innovation metrics are established and provides pertinent KPIs to demonstrate the value of active projects, such as cycle time, capacity improvement, cost reduction, and return on investments.
- Bachelor’s degree in science-related discipline and 12 years related experience in applied-science related discipline, Master’s degree and 7 years related experience in related discipline, or Ph.
D. degree and 5 years related experience. - Practical knowledge of chemical laboratory procedures, laboratory and manufacturing equipment, and specific knowledge of the oligonucleotide manufacturing process.
