Position OverviewThe Principal Design Engineer serves as a senior technical authority across programs and disciplines. This role plays a central part in shaping engineering standards, client strategy, and the long-term direction of the firm.
Responsibilities- Define engineering standards and technical architecture across diverse projects.
- Lead complex, multi-disciplinary programs.
- Serve as primary technical interface with key clients.
- Drive strategic design decisions across mechanical, aerospace, and civil-structural domains.
- Mentor senior engineers
- Contribute to long-term strategic planning and market expansion.
- Represent ASR at conferences and industry events.
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 12+ years of advanced mechanical design experience.
- Extensive electro-mechanical or electro-optical systems expertise preferred.
- Advanced GD&T and tolerance analysis capability.
- Experience working in aerospace or other high-reliability industries preferred.
- Recognized technical leadership capability.
- Demonstrated project ownership and client interaction.
- Experience leading or supporting prototype hardware builds with direct exposure to manufacturing and hands-on tooling environments preferred.
Principal Design Engineers are senior leaders within the firm. This role includes meaningful potential for ownership participation aligned with sustained leadership contribution, strategic impact, and long-term commitment.
Principal engineers are expected to:
- Help define engineering standards and long-term technical strategy
- Mentor future technical leaders
- Contribute to business development and market expansion
- Represent ASR within the broader engineering community
