Hood Technician

Job Summary

The purpose of the Hood Technician position is to assist and be responsible for cleaning the grease off the cooking exhaust systems of commercial kitchens and supervisory functions relating to crews.

• Work after hours once facilities are closed, both inside and outside.
• Often work alone with a helper, interacting professionally with restaurant management and staff, demonstrating honesty and trustworthiness.
• Conduct inspections, cleanup and perform some maintenance.
• Take photos of work for documentation.
• Drive to and from job sites and the shop.
• Fill out required paperwork.
• Keep truck and equipment in working condition.
• Work safely with ladders, chemicals, roofs, filters and other hazardous materials.
• Maintain timely completion of scheduled appointments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Clean kitchen exhaust systems, including fans.

• HS Diploma or equivalent, required.

• Leadership skills, ability to motivate, provide direction (required).
• Light mechanical ability, preferred.
• Experience with hand and power tools.
• Demonstrate critical and safety forward‑thinking skills.
• Collaborator able to work with employees at all levels.
• Strong diligence and accuracy.

• Ability to effectively read, write and communicate in English with employees and customers.

• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
• Must comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, including customer‑specific requirements as per contract.

Employees will frequently bend, ascend and descend step stools, ladders and stairs, kneel, lift up to 60 lbs, reach above and below shoulders, stand and walk for extended periods. Must see in color, close and far distances, peripheral, depth, and adjust focus. Occasionally required to balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift over 60 lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.

Work will be outside and potentially in hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards and noise. Occasionally required indoors in office setting. Must wear all appropriate personal protective equipment as required by company safety policies while visiting locations.
