GENERAL

PURPOSE:

The primary purpose of this position is to create and prepare formulations of prescription medicine, including liquid medications; ensuring customers receive the correct medications as quickly as possible under the supervision of the Pharmacists. This person will be assisting customers in person and over the phone, submitting refill requests, submitting insurance claims, filing prescription paperwork, filling prescriptions, cleaning the pharmacy, and providing exceptional customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare compounds in accordance to USP standards
  • Non-Sterile compounding and proper handling of all manufactured chemicals according to USP chapter 795
  • Accurately count, pour, mix, weigh, and prepare compounded medications
  • Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance to current SOPs and hazardous drug control plan (HDCP)
  • Proper operation and maintenance of all compounding equipment (mortar/pestles, capsule machine, ointment mill, balance, biosafety cabinets, and other compounding equipment, such as glassware, etc.)
  • Maintenance of logs: freezer, balance calibrations, sterile hood, humidity, filter logs, environmental monitoring logs, and temperature logs
  • Proper handling of hazardous drugs in accordance to USP chapter 800
  • Appropriate knowledge and proper handling, storage, transport, waste, facility maintenance, cleanup, and spill management procedures of all hazardous drugs in compliance with SOPs and USP 800
  • Follows established departmental and store policies and procedures
  • Ensures the pharmacy is clean, sanitized, well-maintained, and meets company standards of appearance.
  • Delivers excellent customer service while assisting customers at the pharmacy counter, drive-thru, and over the phone
  • Enters new prescriptions into the system
  • Submits refill requests to doctors over the phone and electronically
  • Submits insurance claims and inquiries about insurance problems
  • Cashiers for pharmacy customers
  • Receives and stocks product for the pharmacy
  • Removes product from the shelves according to Harmons’ expiration date policies
  • Completes assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Sets a professional and positive example to others
  • Teaches, mentors, and educates pharmacy technicians to help them be successful members of the team
  • Communicates effectively and works closely with the Pharmacy Manager
  • Ensures company standards for safety, sanitation, and productivity are maintained
MARGINIAL

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

A high school diploma or GED preferred; one year pharmacy compounding experience; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Must have current Utah Pharmacy Technician License
  • Willing to become trained and certified in compounding at Harmons discretion
  • Ability to multitask
  • Wide range of knowledge in medical and pharmacy terminology, effects of prescription drugs, etc.
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Must possess solid communication skills, including verbal and listening skills in order to effectively and efficiently communicate with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to professionally and appropriately handle conflict
  • Must possess the ability to accept constructive review and be accountable for one’s own success as well as the success of your team
