Position: CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

The South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC) is a public benefit organization focusing on combatting banking and financial crime and making the banking sector safer.

SABRIC’s mission is to contribute to the effectiveness of the partnerships between its members and stakeholders for the benefit of the banking industry by:

  • Facilitating information exchange and cooperation between its members,
  • regulators, and law enforcement,
  • Partnering and rendering technical services to SABRIC members or the state
  • (upon request) and

SABRIC is entering a critical phase of strategic execution, organisational transformation, and operating‑model refinement. With increasing complexity in the financial‑crime landscape and rising expectations from members and stakeholders, the appointment of a permanent Chief Operating Officer has become essential. This role has been repositioned as a key strategic enabler to drive operational excellence, organisational alignment, and strategy execution that delivers measurable value to member banks.

Filling this vacancy is vital to ensuring stability, continuity, and the acceleration of SABRIC’s transformation agenda.

The COO will ope rationalise SABRIC’s strategy by shaping, leading, and optimising a cohesive, future‑fit operating model. As a central catalyst for transformation, the role ensures discipline, pace, and measurable strategic impact across the organisation. A core mandate of the COO is to deliver tangible value for member banks by enhancing operational excellence, strengthening service performance, and driving collaborative responses to emerging financial‑crime threats.

Key Responsibilities include:

Operational Leadership

  • Lead all day‑to‑day operations, ensuring efficiency, regulatory alignment, and high‑quality outcomes.
  • Strengthen organisational systems, processes, and capabilities.
  • Lead the Strategy Transformation Office and drive company‑wide change initiatives.
  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable operational plans with measurable impact.

Service Delivery Excellence

  • Elevate SABRIC’s service offerings to consistently deliver value to members and stakeholders.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with member banks, regulators, law enforcement, and industry partners.
  • Represent SABRIC at key industry forums.
  • Lead and develop high‑performing teams grounded in accountability, collaboration, and innovation.

Risk, Compliance & Governance

  • Foster a culture of proactive risk management and operational resilience.
  • Ensure compliance with governance standards and provide accurate reporting to the CEO and Board.
  • Support operational budgeting, resource allocation, and cost optimisation.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Relevant post‑grad qualification in Business, Management, Finance or Related Field is a requirement
  • Master’s degree in a related discipline would be an added advantage
  • A deep understanding of the Banking and Financial Crimes Industry
  • At least 8 years’ experience in an operational leadership role within financial services or risk‑related environments.
  • Proven track record of strategy execution over a minimum of 8 years.
  • Solid experience in managing Projects and Processes and Leading Change Initiatives
