Strong Mechanical Engineer – Property and Buildings Business Unit
We are seeking a strong Mechanical Engineer to join our Property and Buildings Business Unit. The successful candidate will strengthen our mechanical offering and play a key role in delivering innovative solutions. The responsibilities listed below are indicative of eligibility and capability for the position; final suitability is determined by management and contingent on the availability of an engineering position.
Your Focus Areas- Predominantly HVAC design and implementation.

- Vertical Transportation
- Fire Engineering Services
- High level of technical proficiency.
- Capable of managing projects from inception to closeout, working independently with guidance from a senior engineer on complex or high-value projects.
- Proficient in HVAC design, including air conditioning heat load and ventilation calculations in line with local and international standards.
- Skilled in HVAC design software (e.g., HAP, Loadest, IES) and air/fluid/heat flow calculation tools.
- Knowledge of HVAC modelling software and BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM
360) and manual psychrometric analysis. - Fundamental understanding of Medical Gases, Mechanical Utilities, Wet Services/Public, Fuel System Design, Vertical Transportation and Fire Engineering Services.
- Knowledge of South African National Standards (SANS) for ventilation and global standards such as British Standards and ASHRAE.
- Expertise in specifying and approving specialist equipment.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, earning respect and trust.
- Understand clients’ needs and deliver tailored solutions.
- An established client base is advantageous.
- Demonstrate strong leadership in communication, resource management, and teamwork.
- Work unsupervised, managing time, quality, and effort to deliver high‑quality results within time and cost constraints.
- Handle project scoping, scope monitoring, and cost control for mechanical systems.
- Prepare tender documentation and manage the tender process.
- Formulate Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
- Oversee contractor and contract management within the mechanical discipline.
- Apply logical reasoning to evaluate alternatives.
- Make sound judgments using deductive and inductive reasoning.
- Use scientific principles to solve complex engineering problems.
- Effectively convey information, both written and oral.
- Possess excellent technical report‑writing skills.
- Ensure QA/QC throughout project stages.
- Provide site supervision and monitor construction processes.
- Troubleshoot issues on existing installations.
- Model SHEQ performance and behaviour consistent with the company’s health, safety, environmental and quality vision and policies.
- Identify and mitigate SHEQ risks to achieve Zero Harm.
- Promote a safe working environment across office, construction sites and general environments.
- B Eng / BSc / B Tech degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering with relevant experience.
- Minimum 3 years post‑graduation working experience in HVAC or mechanical engineering, including design and construction monitoring.
- Experience in sectors such as Data Centres, Healthcare Facilities, Clean Rooms and Advanced Manufacturing.
- Good understanding and working knowledge of Revit and BIM
360. - Experience in Medical Gases, Mechanical Utilities, Wet Services/Public, Fuel System Design, Vertical Transportation and Fire Engineering Services is highly advantageous.
- Current employment with a consulting entity preferred.
- Professional registration (Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng) is advantageous.
- Code B drivers licence (preferably own car).
- Computer literacy (programming skills advantageous).
- Experience with Autodesk products (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, BIM
360). - Self‑motivated, team player, excellent communicator.
- Ability to run and manage own projects with guidance from a senior engineer.
- Skilled in thermodynamic and pipe network design principles.
- Responsible, self‑sufficient and able to apply common sense.
- Questioning and inquisitive mind.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
