Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals for the department and monitor all established quality assurance standards. Responsibilities- Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli) will prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
- Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
- Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
- Provide customers with fresh products ordered and the correct portion size to prevent shrink.
- Recommend deli or bakery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
- Use bakery equipment (refrigerators, freezers, slicers, ovens) according to company guidelines.
- Prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking instructions.
- Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipes with appropriate utensils and equipment.
- Package and inventory ingredients in merchandise, and properly label them.
- Check product quality for freshness; review dates and take appropriate action.
- Properly use kitchen equipment, including stove, computerized scale, fryer, steamer, and other tools as needed.
- Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise; report discrepancies to the department manager.
- Understand store layout and locate products when requested by customers.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads; maintain knowledge of products sold in the department.
- Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
- Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
- Promote trust and respect among associates and create a welcoming environment for customers.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines; reinforce safety programs and report unsafe conditions.
- Inspect equipment and notify management of needed repairs; report accidents promptly.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
- Ability to manage conflicts in a reasonable, nonconfrontational manner and act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
- Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve customer and business issues; provide support to diverse customers, including minors and individuals with special needs.
- Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Customer service skills
- Effective communication skills
- Knowledge of basic math
- Ability to obtain a current food handlers permit once employed
