Job Description

We’re hiring a Commercial Insurance Agent to work directly out of our Farmers District Office in Midlothian, Virginia. This role is perfect for someone who’s motivated, enjoys building relationships, and wants a real opportunity to grow in the commercial insurance space. You’ll have the ability to build and manage your own commercial book of business, while also working alongside established Farmers agents to help drive business insurance growth across the District.

To help you hit the ground running we provide a heavy lead flow and call list, so you’re not stuck wondering where your next conversation is coming from. You’ll also get access to the University of Farmers training, plus one‑on‑one coaching and support from our District Staff to help you grow, stay confident, and keep improving your process.

Compensation & Commission Structure
  • First Year On‑Target Earnings (OTE): $75,000 - $95,000
  • Commission and bonus incentives (New Business and Renewal Commissions)
  • Earn commissions on anything you sell with District‑provided leads as an added plus
  • Ability to negotiate a commission split with District agents on business written through their agency relationships/referrals

Responsibilities
  • Identify and secure new business clients through networking, referrals, and proactive outreach
  • Evaluate risks and deliver tailored commercial insurance solutions
  • Present and sell a full suite of products, including General Liability, Commercial Property, Workers Compensation, Commercial Auto, and more
  • Build trusted, consultative relationships with business owners and key decision‑makers
  • Manage a strong pipeline of District‑provided leads and call lists and consistently close new business opportunities
  • Deliver outstanding service and account management to retain and expand client relationships
  • Stay informed on underwriting guidelines, market trends, and competitor offerings
  • Consistently achieve and surpass monthly and quarterly sales goals and performance benchmarks
  • Build and manage your own commercial insurance book of business
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Farmers agents across the District
  • Utilize Concierge Underwriting Support to help identify, quote, and close preferred business
Requirements
  • Active Virginia Property & Casualty insurance license (required)
  • Prior insurance industry experience (required)
  • Current Virginia residency (required)
  • Minimum of 1 year of customer‑facing sales experience in insurance
  • Ability to pass a background check per Farmers guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build lasting client relationships
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals
  • Self‑motivated with strong organizational and time‑management skills
  • Comfortable working independently while also collaborating with a team
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new technology platforms
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelors degree in business, finance, or a related field preferred)
  • Must be located in Virginia and willing to commute to District Office in Midlothian for initial training
