As the Head Dining Room Attendant, you’ll serve in a key leadership role that supports both the daily operations and the ministry of camp life. As a member of the summer camp leadership team, this position plays an essential part in creating a welcoming, organized, and efficient dining experience for campers, staff and volunteers, partnering closely with professional food service personnel, serving as a key link between the dining team and camp leadership to ensure smooth and efficient dining operations.
In this role, you’ll lead, train, and support a team of dining hall attendants, dishwasher and kitchen assistants; helping them develop strong work habits, teamwork, and servant leadership. You’ll assist with scheduling, preparation, and dining operations while upholding camp policies and food safety standards. More than managing a space, you’ll help shape an environment where hospitality and community come together.
Key Responsibilities- Supervises and monitors the day-to-day operations of the camp Dining Room staff providing consistent leadership, guidance, and positive role modeling for staff, fostering a safe, respectful, and Christ-centered environment.
- Plans, schedules, assigns, and supervises the work of dining hall attendants, dishwasher and kitchen assistant; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure quality standards and health regulations are enforced.
- Coordinate daily staff schedules to ensure appropriate dining room and canteen coverage for smooth service operations.
- Collaborate with food service and camp leadership to support safe, efficient, organized, and welcoming dining operations.
- Ensure food service areas, equipment, and storage spaces remain clean, safe, organized, and compliant through daily inspections and inventories.
- Monitor maintenance and cleaning needs, reporting repairs or replacements as needed to maintain optimal food service conditions.
- Enforce safety procedures and regulatory compliance, including local, state, federal, and American Camp Association standards.
- Serve as an engaged member of the summer leadership team during all-camp activities, evening programs, and special events.
- Ensure camper and staff safety during all assigned activities, promptly reporting incidents and accidents according to camp procedures.
- Must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate or GED preferred.
- A heart for others and a mind towards Christ.
- Should be self-motivated and teachable.
- Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with peers, those in supervision and campers.
- Two years progressively responsible experience in food service management with at least six months experience in a supervisory capacity preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- A willingness to abide by The Salvation Army doctrinal statement and Camp Hoblitzelle’s policies.
- CPR & First Aid certified or capable of passing by June 15, 2025 (training provided by Camp Hoblitzelle during staff training if needed).
- Must be able to pass a state and federal background check.
- Camp Leadership Staff Training will be held June 3 – June 7, 2026 with all Staff Training held June 8 – June 14, 2026, and participation is required. The 2026 summer Camp program sessions will be held June 15 - July 26, 2026. If you are unable to work the entire season, please let us know on your application.
