POSITION:
Special Education Coordinator
STARTING DATE: 2026-27 School Year
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid Illinois PEL with LBS1, School Psychologist, School Social Worker, or Speech Pathologist endorsement
2. At least 5 years of successful special education or related services experience.
3. Administrative endorsement on a PEL.
4. Director of Special Education endorsement, preferred.
5. Experience as a Local Education Agency (LEA) representative, preferred.
6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Work Year: 200 days
2. Fringe Benefits:
Health, dental, and life insurance plus sick leave, personal business leave.
3. Salary:
Based upon experience.

General Duties
* To assist in maintaining high quality of services, staff, parents, and community member who utilize the services assigned to this position.
* To assist immediate supervisor in carrying out the duties assigned to that position.
* To strive for positive and collegial public relations with the staff, students, parents, and community members.
* To maintain confidentiality in all areas assigned to this position.
* To act as a role model for students and staff and to provide leadership, in the areas assigned to this position.
Qualifications

Performance Responsibilities of the Special Services Building Coordinator
* Coordinate and Monitor Special Education Services in the schools and Out-of-District Placements
* Support and implement a district-wide philosophy of least restrictive environment for special education students and communicate it to school administration, staff, parents, and community members.
* Assume responsibility for the implementation and observation of all Board policies and Local, State and Federal regulations as they apply to special education student and staff.
* Keep informed of all legal requirements governing special education and implement State and Federal regulations as they apply to special education students and staff.
* Acts as a leader and resource for the department teachers and related service staff regarding best practice in terms of IEP development, placement, programming, and supports for students.
* Implement procedures for referral, placement, evaluation, assignment, and re-appraisal of students with regard to the special education services program, including but not limited to:
Child Find, initial case studies, Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings, annual reviews, re-evaluations, transition plans, and Manifestation Determination Review meetings (if applicable).
