POSITION: Mechanic Supervisor

EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt

NUMBER OF DAYS: 260

PAY GRADE: Aux PG-9

DIVISION:

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

SUPERVISES: Mechanic Helpers, Mechanic 1, Mechanic II and Mechanic III

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED preferred

EXPERIENCE: Eight years prior experience in mechanics or supervision

Position Function/Purpose

Overall shop operation and inventory control.

Major Responsibilities
  • Access TOM system to be familiar with fleet vehicles assigned for trips
  • Work closely with Assistant Director in preventive maintenance, service, and inspections.
  • Assign the repair/replacement of any damaged, worn or nonfunctional component on any MISD owned vehicle which makes the vehicle unsafe for use
  • Follow up on all reported vehicle maintenance concerns determining when the vehicle is safe for normal operation
  • Pull video tapes from buses as requested by the Director of Transportation
  • Assist Assistant Director of Transportation with supervising all shop personnel, Washbay, Helpers, Mechanic I, Mechanic II, Mechanic III, Crew Foreman and Upholstery repairmen
  • Assign all SUVs and Crown Victorians for out of town activities will be assigned by TOM and coordinated by the Management Specialist and Transportation Supervisor directly with the Mechanic Supervisor to be serviced and ready for activity trips, according to the mileage and year of the vehicles
  • Recommends major equipment and vehicle replacement
  • Responds to emergency situations in inclement weather conditions and determines appropriate course of action
  • Maintain and service vehicles for Maintenance, M.I.S.D. Police, Head Start, Purchasing & Warehouse, Food Service and Driver Education
  • Develop and schedule preventative maintenance program for district vehicles and equipment
  • Prioritize maintenance request and assign work to crew
  • Oversee the operation of Washbay for the scheduling of fleet cleanliness
  • Assign substitute buses when regular route buses have maintenance problems
  • Assure adequate maintenance and repair records are maintained for district vehicles and equipment
  • Oversee the upholstery of school buses
  • Maintain Texas DPS monthly Vehicle Inspection Records
  • Maintain fuel reports and fuel orders as needed will be recommended to the Director of Transportation for approval
  • Director of Transportation will issue purchase orders to the Mechanic Supervisor for the purchase of vehicle parts
  • Keep the Director informed of all major fleet repairs
  • Supervise and evaluate all mechanic shop employees. All job assignments need to be approved by the Director of Transportation before assignments are made
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation
  • Maintain and submit underground storage tank reports
  • Oversee Fuel Master data
  • Work closely with Fleet Manager on ZONAR inspections
  • Utilize Transfinder Fleet Management software
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation
  • Qualification Requirements
    • The ability to read and write English
    • High School Diploma or GED preferred
    • Have or be eligible for State Bus Driver certification
    • Computer literate
    • Specialized mechanical knowledge all areas of diesel and gas powered engines
    • State vehicle inspection
    • ASE Certification
    • Auto Dealership Service Manager experience preferred
    • Valid Texas Driver License and acceptable driving record; must adhere to Midland ISD’s vehicle safety and use program
