The City of Midland is hiring a dependable and safety-minded Sanitation Truck Driver to support essential waste collection and disposal services. As a key part of our Solid Waste Division, you’ll operate refuse collection vehicles, assist with bulk and yard waste pickup, support recycling efforts, and help maintain the cleanliness and health of our community.

Responsibilities- Drives a sanitation vehicle and collects and disposes of solid waste from containers. Collects and disposes of yard waste and large, bulky items when assigned to hand pick up.
- Travels to and from the landfill in order to dispose of waste materials.
- Assists in litter pickup and similar programs when required.
- Maintains and inspects vehicles and performs safety checks daily.
- Maintains records of work performed for supervisor such as vehicle check list, trip logs and repair reports.
- Any solid waste management activity required of the solid waste management division in order to adequately perform public service responsibilities.
- Assists in recycling activities.
- Assists in solid wasted disposal related activities when not driving a regular route.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various work sites. Ability to vigorously bend, climb and lift in order to collect materials. Employee will be subject to extreme temperatures. Ability to work with mechanical, chemical, environmental and biological hazards. Employee works around contaminated materials collecting and disposing of materials.
Communication & SkillsAbility to effectively communicate with employees and citizens who will inquire regarding disposal procedures. Ability to work with citizens who may have complaints on services provided.
Knowledge & EquipmentKnowledge of processes used in the collection and disposal of waste materials. Ability to read and write and follow oral and written instructions from supervisor. Skill in the use of various equipment and machinery such as hand tools and heavy equipment utilized in disposal activities such as compactors, lifts, claws and various hydraulic systems as well as shovels, brooms and rakes.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent preferred with six months to one year of experience in a related position. Valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License required.
