Route Service Technician
The Route Service Technician is primarily responsible for operating a company truck and driving to various customer locations to do any or all of the following: deliver, pick up, maintain, service, or repair portable restrooms, hand sinks, holding tanks, or any asset assigned. The Route Service Technician may exercise these duties on a daily route, a daily pick-up and delivery schedule, a yard/shop assistant, or during a special event.
This position is exposed to extreme weather conditions, unpleasant odors, and sights. The hours and physical demands may vary by task.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Ability to read, operate, and understand an electronic map/GPS/dispatching system utilizing a phone or iPad.
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing).
- General knowledge of the mechanics of trucks.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with WSI staff and customers.
- Ability to pull a trailer preferred.
- Waste industry experience preferred.
- Works in a variety of environmental conditions, including wide temperature and weather variations, including heat, cold, snow, rain, wind, noise and vibrations, fumes, odors, and dust.
- Exposure to human waste is possible.
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions while outside of the vehicle.
- This position is outdoors and/or driving a GPS-monitored vehicle.
- Physically able to push or pull independently (unassisted) 50 pounds between 25 and 50 times a day.
- Physically able to lift independently (unassisted) 50 pounds from the ground to waist height between 25 and 50 times a day.
- Physically able to get up and down from the cab of a commercial motor vehicle between 30 and 50 times a day.
- Physically able to lift with assistance (helper) 100 pounds between 20 and 30 times a day.
- Physically able to bend at the waist and knees between 120-150 times in a day.
- Physically able to reach overhead and pull down using 20 pounds of force and secure a tarp.
- Physically able to climb up to 8 feet in height to deploy a 25-pound tarp.
- Physically able to work 8 to 12 hours in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, and snow).
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Experience:
1-year previous commercial driving experience preferred. - Possess a valid driver license.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background screen and drug and alcohol tests.
- Route Service Technicians are responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by Stallion Infrastructure Services.
