Position: District Sign Technician I - IV (Midland)

Job Description

TxDOT’s Odessa District is seeking dedicated and skilled individuals to join our team as District Sign Technician I, II, III or IV at our Midland Maintenance Section in Midland, TX. As a Sign Tech, you will play a key role in maintaining and installing roadway signs, supports, and delineators, ensuring safety and compliance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Minimum Salary: $45,360.00. Maximum Salary: $81,351.00. Pay Basis:
Yearly. FLSA Status:

Yes, 10% of the time. Shift: Day, 40 hrs - Monday - Friday 7am - 3:30pm. Location Flexibility:

Responsibilities

Performs entry-level transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records of signs and materials and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and standard practices and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

Performs skilled transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes and delineators in a district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records, ordering of signs and materials, and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision details.

Coordinates and performs advanced skilled transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Serves as a lead worker and trains other technicians. Work includes coordinating and maintaining inventory and records, ordering of signs and materials, and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments;

however, all unusual issues are referred to a supervisor.

Detailed Responsibilities List
  • Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions.
  • Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products.
  • Issues signs to maintenance sections/transportation crews; uses tools and equipment and moves signs and related materials.
  • Maintains expense records and inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Mixes and places concrete for sign support foundations; moves cement bags and other items related to these duties.
  • Operates a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs.
  • Performs and maintains inventory of signs.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on sign truck.
  • Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations, and delineators in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance.
  • Orders supplies and materials from district shop.
  • Conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retroreflective pavement markers (RPMs).
