Scope of Work
Want a hands‑on role that keeps our city clean, safe, and running smoothly? Under the direction of the Landfill Manager, this position helps maintain the landfill’s buildings, grounds, and perimeter areas using tractors, mowers, and a variety of hand tools. You’ll work independently or lead small crews to keep the facility clean, functional, and compliant with regulations.
From litter control and mowing to fence repairs and equipment upkeep, this role is essential in supporting one of the City’s most important public services. If you’re dependable, enjoy outdoor work, and take pride in keeping things in top shape, we’d love to have you on our team.
EssentialJob Duties
- Primarily pick up litter inside landfill perimeter, pick up litter at surrounding private properties and roadways. May use both motorized and non‑motorized equipment/methods.
- Maintain fencing and make repairs as needed.
- Mow excess vegetative growth on landfill perimeter, easements and monitoring stations.
- Maintain all equipment in good working order and keep records of inspections. Reports any problems to the supervisor.
- Paint and maintain/repair/install landfill grid marker system, signs, and regulatory markers.
- Monitor vehicles as they enter the landfill and unload and leave the landfill. Gives direction to citizens.
- Clean landfill buildings and facilities as needed.
- Perform any other related duties as required.
Ability to effectively communicate with employees and the general public.
Physical and Environmental ConditionsEmployee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while operating equipment or completing projects. Ability to sit, climb, bend and lift materials in excess of 50 lbs. May be exposed to potentially hazardous fumes, dangerous wildlife, odors, mechanical and chemical hazards while completing tasks.
Required Qualifications Knowledge, Abilities and SkillsAbility to read, interpret and understand local, state and federal regulations related to solid waste disposal. Knowledge of the processes used in the collection and disposal of waste materials. Ability to follow instructions and manuals for equipment operation and maintenance. Skill in the use of various types of equipment and machinery such as hand and electrical power tools as well as simple shovels, brooms and rakes.
Ability to read operator’s manuals and work orders.
High school or equivalent preferred plus a valid Texas driver’s license required. Must be able to successfully complete a waste screening course within one year of employment.
