High Performance Driving Instructor (Contract – 1099)
Location: West Texas (Midland / Odessa region – within ~2 hour radius)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced High Performance Driving Instructor to deliver advanced, behind-the-wheel accident-avoidance training programs in the West Texas region.
This is not a traditional driver’s education role . Our programs operate at and beyond normal road limits, requiring instructors with a deep understanding of vehicle dynamics, traction management, skid recovery, threshold braking, and performance-based control techniques.
Instructors must be capable of safely demonstrating and teaching controlled loss-of-traction scenarios and high-intensity vehicle exercises.
Who This Role Is For
This position is best suited for individuals with substantial experience in one or more of the following:
- Competitive motorsports (road racing, autocross, rally, time attack, etc.)
- EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course) instruction – law enforcement or military
- Professional performance driving schools
- Advanced vehicle dynamics instruction environments
- Defensive / tactical driving instruction at a professional level
This role requires more than enthusiasm for driving. Applicants must demonstrate a working, applied understanding of weight transfer, slip angle, braking thresholds, and vehicle control at the limits of adhesion.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-performance accident-avoidance training in a controlled environment
- Instruct skid recovery, emergency lane changes, threshold braking, and dynamic maneuvering
- Demonstrate exercises safely and precisely
- Assess student performance and provide corrective coaching
- Maintain safety standards and enforce program protocols
- Setup and breakdown training courses and equipment before and after each training event
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated high-performance driving experience (motorsports, EVOC, tactical, or equivalent)
- Ability to articulate vehicle dynamics concepts clearly and professionally
- Proven ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure
- Strong situational awareness and risk management skills
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Willingness to operate as a 1099 independent contractor
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior instructional or coaching experience in performance environments
- Experience teaching teen or novice drivers
- Background in public safety, military, or structured motorsports programs
- Mechanical understanding of vehicle systems is a plus
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to stand and remain on your feet for extended periods (6 + hours during event days)
- Significant walking throughout large parking lot or track environments
- Ability to bend, kneel, enter and exit vehicles repeatedly
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain (excluding lightning), and occasional snow
- Must maintain focus and professionalism in physically demanding and fast-paced environments
- Working proficiency with mobile devices and basic web-based applications
- Ability to use scheduling platforms, digital check-in systems (QR codes), and cloud-based scorecards
- Comfortable uploading photos and completing digital reports via mobile device or laptop
- Able to troubleshoot basic technology issues independently
Geographic Requirement
Applicants must reside within approximately a two-hour drive of Midland/Odessa, Texas, and be available for scheduled training events
