Job DescriptionInGenesis is currently seeking an Associate Surface Operations Specialist to work with our client. In this role, you will ensure oil and gas lease compliance and promote responsible land stewardship. The Associate Specialist oversees lease terminations to confirm wellbores are properly plugged and abandoned, production equipment removed, and surface sites restored to native land. Additional responsibilities include managing state‑mandated or voluntary plugging and abandonment, reviewing low‑producing wells, and ensuring leases are producing in paying quantities.
When leases are not economic, the Specialist coordinates proper plugging, abandonment, and surface restoration activities to maintain land in a safe and sustainable condition.
- Build relationships internally and externally to ensure lease compliance and environmental sustainability.
- Identify non‑productive or abandoned wells and oversee proper plugging per Texas RRC requirements.
- Schedule and perform lease inspections, generate reports, and communicate findings to operators and stakeholders.
- Document field observations and maintain accurate status records.
- Inspect drilling, completion, production, and storage operations for compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Witness and inspect well‑plugging operations.
- Report spills and environmental concerns to prevent damage to land, livestock, and wildlife.
- Coordinate field audits and educate stakeholders on production and storage equipment.
- Conduct aerial surveillance and utilize drones for field observations.
- Provide solutions for abandoned equipment removal and reclamation.
- Oversee contract service providers and engage with operators and regulatory agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma with technical experience in upstream or midstream oil and gas operations.
- Expertise in surface operations, land management, and reclamation projects.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Bachelor’s degree in energy management, land management, engineering, technology, or related fields.
- Experience with oil and gas exploration and production.
- 3 years of professional or technical work in oil and gas operations;
Permian Basin experience preferred. - Knowledge of surface management policies and procedures.
Work is performed outdoors around oil and gas operations and in an office environment in Midland, TX. Includes use of surveillance technologies and standard office equipment.
