Southern Boone High School
Southern Boone High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a High School Social Studies / Reading Intervention Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. This position will include teaching social studies courses and also providing targeted reading intervention to support students who need additional help developing literacy skills necessary for success across the high school curriculum.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social studies education, a commitment to improving student literacy, and a passion for helping students build the academic skills needed for long-term success.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with Missouri Learning Standards and district curriculum.
- Teach high school social studies courses that promote critical thinking, historical analysis, and civic understanding.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement and learning.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and provide constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance curriculum alignment and improve the overall student learning experience.
- Provide targeted reading instruction for students requiring Tier II and Tier III literacy support.
- Deliver individualized and small-group instruction to address specific reading skill deficits.
- Conduct formal and informal assessments to identify student needs and monitor progress.
- Develop and maintain reading intervention plans for students receiving services.
- Track and maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate results with teachers, administrators, and families.
- Support students in developing reading strategies that improve comprehension across content areas, including social studies.
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, counselors, and administrators to support student success.
- Participate in professional learning communities and data team meetings focused on student achievement.
- Maintain positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Participate in school-wide activities, events, and professional development opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid Missouri teaching certification in Social Studies or appropriate secondary content area.
- Demonstrated knowledge of reading instruction and intervention strategies.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to building positive relationships with students and supporting their academic growth.
