Education
  • High School Diploma or GED and/or 30 semester hours of an accredited college or university
  • Educational Aide Certificate from state of Texas
Experience
  • Some experience working with children
Position Function/Purpose

Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Essential Functions
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy
  • Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
  • Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher
  • Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments
  • Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom
  • All other duties as assigned by the supervisor
  • Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
  • Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing reports
  • Participate in in-service programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
  • Qualification Requirements
  • Possess, or be willing to apply for, a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense)
  • Educational Aide certificate as established by the State Board for Educator Certification. The applicant for the educational aide certificate shall
    • hold a high school diploma, the equivalent of a high school diploma, or higher;
    • have satisfied one of the following requirements:
    • has three creditable years of experience, as defined in Chapter 153, Subchapter CC, of this title (relating to Commissioner's Rules on Creditable Years of Service), as either an educational aide I or II;
    • has completed 30 semester credit hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas;
  • have experience working with students and parents as approved by the employing superintendent.
