Job Summary

Instructors for the Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency ( GED ) will work in a classroom setting instructing students in Midland College’s Adult Education Program.

Required Qualifications
  • An earned Bachelor’s Degree in English, History, Mathematics, Education or similar discipline from a regionally accredited institution
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • General familiarity with computers, Word, and Excel programs
  • Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external groups
  • Willingness to participate in collaborative projects with colleagues and instructional leaders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in teaching adult students or high school students
  • Experience with curriculum design, curriculum implementation, and assessment of student progress
  • Experience teaching in different modalities to include face-to-face, hybrid, and online/remote
Essential Functions
  • Instruct students who have achieved varying levels of mastery in the subject matter area (Language Arts, Social Science, Science, and Math)
  • Teach students online, face-to-face, or a combination of the two modalities on a schedule as assigned by the TXCHSE ( GED ) Coordinator
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with students
  • Integrate essential workplace competencies into the classroom setting
  • Report and interpret test results for individual students
  • Develop and promote a safe learning environment for all students
  • Provide tutoring and additional instructional support to students as necessary
  • Attend required staff meetings
  • Complete the required 15 clock hours of professional development as assigned through the state training portal by the program’s Professional Development Coordinator
  • Participate in student registration and orientation functions as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands

Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 20 pounds;
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time;
Use of manual dexterity;
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation;
The person in this position needs to occasionally move from office to classroom.

Security Sensitivity
