Registered Nurse RN - Pre​/Post​/Intra-Op - Riecker; Midland

Overview

The Registered Nurse provides direct care to patients using the nursing process. This includes ongoing assessment of the total patient. The RN provides interventions to treat the presenting symptoms and evaluates the effect of nursing interventions and patient’s responses. The RN functions as a team leader/member and resource to others. The RN delegates, oversees and provides direction to support staff. Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to establish goals and outcomes for each patient.

The RN is responsible for meeting the needs of all types of patients.

• (40%) Regularly assesses patient’s needs and provides skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician authorized plan of care and accepted standards of evidence-based nursing practice.
• (30%) Provides direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, education, call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties as appropriate.
• (20%) Evaluates effectiveness of treatment plan and makes suggestions or participates in updating/revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care.
• (10%) The RN is knowledgeable and compliant with all local, state and federal regulations and guidelines as well as hospital specific policies and procedures relating to care provided in the medical center.

• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
• Preferred: BLS - Basic Life Support

• RN - Registered Nurse
• Education:
  
  Associates Degree (Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred)
• One year of acute care experience
• Must follow My Michigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required

  • Delivers pre-operative and discharge instructions suited to the patient and family.
  • Ensures current history and physical aligns with surgical plan of care and consent is signed.
  • Ensures completion of necessary labs, x-rays, and cardiograms for surgical patients and communicates results promptly.
  • Completes procedural checklists and initiates physician orders to safely prepare for surgery.
  • Participates in direct patient care and other clinical and technical tasks per health system policies.
  • Practices within the scope of licensure and delegates appropriate tasks to team members.
  • Assists anesthesiologist in nerve blocks with site marking, safety checklist, consent, and sterile field maintenance.

• Able to work with latex equipment or supplies and wear PPE including latex materials or substitutes.
• Ability to move freely about the unit and hospital; full visual and auditory capabilities; ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing.
• Frequent standing, walking, and sitting for long periods; potential exposure to blood borne pathogens.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and perform tasks requiring dexterity; on-call or irregular schedule may apply.
