SUMMARY
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to; assisting in patient care performing cardiology procedures, such as, holter monitoring, cardiac stress testing (GXT, Echo stress, Nuclear stress (treadmill and pharmacologic options), ECGs, event recorders, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring). Providing supervision during exercise sessions, risk factor assessment, appropriate referrals, patient education and quality assurance. Being able to assess and work closely with Cardiologists to insure appropriate care is provided in a timely manner.
Work efficiently with other departments and correlate exams as a team. Other functions that may be assigned.

* Supervision of patients undergoing cardiac stress testing such as treadmill exercise or pharmacologic testing. Responsible to act as a patient advocate reviewing and obtaining patient medical record history to verify patient safety. Works closely with overseeing Cardiologist to assure the correct examination is being performed. Responsible for monitoring patient vitals such as, blood pressure, oxygen levels, heart rate, etc.

* Performs necessary ECGs in hospital departments and outpatient walk in exams. Ability to maintain ECG completions through computer application to verify reads, attach orders, correct errors, and assign to Cardiologist.

* Performs accurate pre and post-processing of testing. Accurately utilizes all computer systems and programs associated with Cardiovascular Services.

* Performs all other cardiac testing such as holter monitor application and scanning along with event monitor application, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.

- Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy at all times toward all employees, physicians, associated staff and My Michigan Health customers and potential customers.
- Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental and hospital goals; attends/participates in departmental and hospital meetings.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned including assisting in other areas of the department as needed.
- Provides department specific duties days, nights, and weekends as assigned.
- Assists in the establishment and maintenance of the students (assists in their educational experience as needed).
- Responsible for assisting during emergency situations, addressing administrative concerns, supervising collegiate interns, ordering necessary supplies, overseeing all program duties.
- Assists in obtaining physical assessment data including but not limited to: blood pressure, heart rate, oximetry reading, lung sounds, blood glucose levels and EKG monitoring.
- Ensures a safe environment for the patients to exercise. Instructs patients on safe use of equipment and reinforces. Utilizes appropriate lift equipment on a routine basis.
- Markets to physicians by direct contact.
- Posesses an understanding of infection prevention and control measures designed to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
- Maintains the standards of the infection prevention and control policies.
- Follows hand hygiene policies and utilizes personal protective equipment as required.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSURES- BLS:
Basic Life Support - Within 3 months of hire or transfer (Equivalent Experience)
- AHA (Qualification Source)
- Bachelor of Arts or Science (BACH)
- Equivalent
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or health related field and/or equivalent experience.
- Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner in person and by phone.
- Completion of a four to six month internship in preventative, diagnostic, and rehabilitative cardiology or equivalent clinical experience required.
- Required completion of basic arrhythmia/12 Lead ECG Interpretation course or equivalent.
- Certification in exercise physiology or cardiac stress testing is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of clinical exercise physiology, graded exercise testing procedures, preventative and rehabilitative cardiology (including nutrition, risk factor and behavior modification strategies), standard and exercise electrocardiography, and emergency/safety procedures.
- Fundamental PC experience required.
- One year work experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
- Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief and death.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
