Patient Transportation Aide

Overview

Summary This position is responsible for the transportation of patients, equipment, specimens, medical records and miscellaneous items throughout the entire medical center campus. Employees are responsible for dispatching and prioritizing runs. They transport preoperative and postoperative patients to and from the operating room. These employees keep track of their daily statistics and finalize report at end of the month.

• Transport patients throughout the medical center including occasional transports to Riecker Surgery Center, Campus Ridge or Women’s Center. Transports pre- and post-op patients to and from operating room and PACU. Discharges patients.
• Transport supplies, equipment, specimens, medical records throughout the medical center including Riecker Surgery Center.
• Works as dispatcher and prioritizes runs based on patient needs. Utilizes good communication skills.
• Performs tasks on computer. Records daily and monthly statistics.
• In the performance of the regular job duties, the job code may have access to the medication room and supply room for stocking. Follows established safety procedures: patient identification, safe transfers, prepares and maintains O2, follows universal precautions, ensures transport devices are cleaned between transports, maintains confidentiality and documents on medical record.

  Computer knowledge required. Ability to communicate successfully with patients, family and staff required. Mandatory OSHA training annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
• Organizational Skills/computer Skills Required, Ability To Prioritize Preferred. Quality customer service skills required, excellent customer relation skills preferred.

• Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear PPE including latex materials or substitutes if required. Move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and perform the functions of the job as outlined. Overall vision and hearing required with or without assistive devices. Frequently sit/stand/walk for long periods; may require postural changes. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens;
  
  follow My Michigan Health policies. Maintain regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. Dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling; may require repetition of movements. Heavy physical demand: lift/carry 51-100 lbs occasionally; 50 lbs frequently; 20 lbs with walking/standing/pushing/pulling as applicable.
