Summary

This position provides specialized repair and preventative maintenance services to general diagnostic imaging equipment and biomedical equipment.

Responsibilities
  • (35%)* Performs timely repair and maintenance primarily on general imaging equipment, including software and networking troubleshooting and configuration of clinical diagnostic systems.
  • (35%)* Performs timely electrical safety, performance testing and preventative maintenance on general medical, radiology and/or imaging equipment. The electrical safety and performance testing is done to verify compliance with My Michigan Health, MDCIS, and Joint Commission guidelines.
  • (20%) Provides and maintains documentation and record keeping on medical, radiology, and/or imaging equipment inventory. Documentation information includes purchase information, warranty and contract information, performance and safety testing information, in‑house and vendor‑performed service history and work orders, and parts inventory.
  • (10%)* Acquires parts and supplies necessary for the most cost‑effective maintenance of medical imaging equipment.
  • Utilizes training opportunities to significantly reduce contract dependency for general imaging equipment.
  • Provides appropriate service cost history to the System Manager with an emphasis on contract vs. time and material contrasts for the continual reduction of service expense.
  • Provides on‑call coverage on a rotating basis.
  • Evaluates all aspects of equipment requirements, including pre‑purchase agreements, preventative maintenance scheduling, service history trends, service contracts, equipment replacement, etc.
  • Verifies or develops PM procedures that meet manufacturer or AEM specifications and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in continuing education, performance improvement initiatives, and My Michigan learning requirements. Provides in‑services as needed and cross‑trains other techs.
  • Assists Biomedical Technicians and Specialists with preventative maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or System Manager.
Certifications and Licensures
  • DMVCHECK: DMV Record Check
Required Education

Associate (ASSOC) level education required.

  • Must have one of the following:
    • Associate of Applied Science degree from a Biomedical Electronics Program.
    • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology.
    • Associate Degree in electronics, electrical engineering, or related technology field combined with completion of college level coursework in basic chemistry and basic anatomy/physiology.
    • Military training with 5 years of hospital experience.
  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor or Applied Science degree preferred.
Experience, Training and Skills
  • Certified understanding of DICOM standards, imaging technology, radiology equipment service and vendor techniques required.
  • OEM training and certification in at least two specific modalities applicable to equipment currently in use at My Michigan Health  System preferred.
  • Biomed experience in a hospital setting with 1–8 years radiology and/or imaging equipment service experience preferred.
  • Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES) preferred.
  • Troubleshooting and technical skills from entry level to intermediate level in general medical and imaging equipment repair, PM, safety test, calibration, and record keeping are required.
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions
  • Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief and death.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitutes.
  • Must be able to move freely around the facility with or without an assisted device and perform job functions as outlined.
  • Vision and hearing required, with or without assistive devices.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand or walk for long periods. May need to stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Some exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow My Michigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance and stay awake.
  • Dexterity required for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. Repetitive movements may be frequent.
  • Physical demand:
    Medium. Occasionally (0–33% of the workday) lift 21–50 lbs.; frequently (34–66%) 20 lbs.; constantly (67–100%) 10 lbs.; walk/stand/push/pull with arm/leg controls.
