Overview
Category Sourcing Manager - Logistics – Hybrid role in Midland, MI. The role is part of the Logistics Procurement team and partners with global and local functional leadership to establish category-specific strategies and drive supplier identification, negotiations, and contracting to meet requirements with optimal economics. Focus areas include Rail and Warehouse, with other modes of Transport (Truck, MPC, etc.). The incumbent will manage relationships with established vendors across these categories.
This is a hybrid position located in Midland, MI.
ResponsibilitiesRun the Business
- Establish strong working relationships with functional stakeholders and jointly define and implement 3-5 year category strategies that support the needs of the function.
- Lead negotiations and ensure cross-functional support/approvals of agreed to commercial terms; drive successful implementation of new agreements.
- Depending on assigned portfolio, total annual spend of rough estimate approx. $30-40 MM over 60 vendors will be directly under the influence of the individual. Assigned portfolio might include local, regional and global responsibilities.
- Develop strong teamwork within the global/regional Integrated Business Services / Supply Chain organization and with key stakeholders within the locations supported; identify leverage opportunities across the company.
- Assess and manage risk per business/customer, including supply vulnerability assessment and translate these into strategies per mode.
Change/Improve the Business
- Lead or co-lead Sourcing Councils; responsible for collecting and sharing market intelligence with functional partners to proactively identify opportunities for service or cost savings.
- Challenge existing concepts, specifications and cost budgets; introduce new sourcing solutions; act as change agent at business level.
- Lead the execution of sourcing projects against identified opportunities and subsequent development for new suppliers.
External Relationships
- Manage key supplier relationships and performance to contracts of assigned categories, mainly within region but also in support of global requirements.
Compliance
- Maintain and execute best-in-class procurement processes, ensure proper contract administration, follow policy requirements, utilize key procurement tools, and troubleshoot issues with the tactical procurement team.
- Bachelor's degree or higher (Logistics, Supply Chain Mgt, Finance, or relevant area of study)
- 7-10+ years of experience in procurement related roles
- Training in procurement approaches/strategies
- Strategic thinker with ability to execute
- Demonstrated ability and experience to engage with and influence multiple key internal clients
- Demonstrated ability to handle a diverse portfolio of projects across multiple spend and geographical areas and work under pressure with competing priorities
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and negotiation skills
- Proficient analytical skills
- Experience in a global, chemical business environment preferred
- Spoken and written fluency in English is mandatory;
Spanish fluency is a plus - Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- Knowledge of SAP is desired, but not required
