Role Overview

A Project Coordinator within SP Energy Networks (SPEN) plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of the electrical distribution and transmission network. The role supports maintenance planning, coordination of field teams, and adherence to SPEN’s regulatory obligations.

A Project Coordinator at SPEN acts as a planning, logistics and safety-focused hub for maintenance activity across the electricity network — ensuring safe operations, minimising customer impact, supporting regulatory compliance, and delivering accurate asset data that underpins SPEN’s long-term network strategy.

Key Responsibilities Supporting the Maintenance of the Electricity Network
  • Coordinating maintenance on substations, switch gear, overhead lines, and cables.
  • Ensuring maintenance activities minimise customer impact and support SPEN licence obligations.
Planning & Scheduling Maintenance Activities
  • Scheduling planned and reactive maintenance in line with SPEN maintenance standards.
  • Coordinating outages with planners to avoid unnecessary supply interruptions.
  • Prioritising emergency repairs to restore customer supplies quickly.
Coordinating Field Teams & Contractors
  • Assigning work to Lines, Cables, Substation or Multi?skilled teams.
  • Ensuring contractors comply with SPEN technical and safety requirements.
  • Monitoring workloads and reallocating resources during severe weather or highfault periods.
Ensuring Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensuring all works comply with SPEN safety rules and permit systems.
  • Supporting audit processes and maintaining compliance documentation.
  • Ensuring risk assessments and method statements are completed and followed.
Managing Work Orders, Records & Asset Data
  • Updating maintenance logs and asset condition data.
  • Using SPEN asset management systems to track asset history and maintenance progress.
  • Ensuring documentation meets regulatory and licence reporting requirements.
Inventory, Tools & Material Coordination
  • Ensuring teams have required tools, equipment, and network materials.
  • Coordinating procurement of critical spares and managing depot stock levels.
Customer & Stakeholder Considerations
  • Supporting planned outage notifications and customer communication.
  • Ensuring vulnerable customers are protected during planned works.
  • Coordinating with local authorities for roadworks and access requirements.
