Position: High School Counselor, 2026-2027 School Year

Bishop Fenwick High School is a private, Catholic, coeducational, college‑preparatory high school serving the Middletown, Ohio community since 1952. Position Summary

The student counselor role calls for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our mission‑driven counseling team. As one of three counselors, you will work collaboratively with faculty and administration to help create a safe and healthy environment, foster the growth and development essential for success in high school, and prepare students to thrive beyond graduation. Our counseling model is grounded in the ASCA National Model and supported by student‑to‑counselor ratios are better than recommended standards.

This structure is intentionally designed to cultivate meaningful individual relationships with students so they may grow to embody the qualities of faith, compassion, integrity, and service.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to Catholic education, a willingness to work with a talented and motivated student population and faculty colleagues, and the ability adapt to quickly changing student challenges. They must also submit to and pass an FBI/BCI criminal background check and enroll in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati’s Safe Parish program.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or higher.
  • Ohio School Counseling Licensure (or in the process of obtaining).
  • Minimum three years counseling experience.
  • Counsels a caseload of freshmen through seniors providing academic, social/emotional and college/career counseling. Students stay with the same counselor through all four years.
  • Communicates and works effectively with students, faculty, staff, administration, and families.
  • Expertise in graduation requirements, course scheduling, and academic, social/emotional, and college/career counseling through in‑person, small group, and classroom guidance modalities.
  • Responds to crises using school protocols and appropriate referrals.
  • Collaborates closely with all student support teams including academic team, student services team, and intervention assistance team.
  • Understands and protects the confidentiality of students.
  • Proactively consults with students and with parents/guardians.
  • Coordinates the preparation for and administration of standardized testing programs, including the Iowa testing (9th grade proficiency tests) and the ACT, PSAT and AP.
  • Participates in orientation and admissions programs.
  • Establishes an open and caring environment which encourages students and parents/guardians to utilize counseling services.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development and ethical practice to remain current in the profession.
Desired Experience
  • Experience with counseling high school students.
  • Experience with student information systems, such as Rediker Admin Plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools to maintain various records and reports.
  • Working knowledge of various educational technologies for tracking and advancing student progress.
  • Understanding of state graduation requirements, student records, and transcripts.
Mental/Physical Demands
  • Maintains professional composure and avoids inappropriate displays of emotion.
  • Sits, stands, bends, stoops, reaches, grabs, pulls, hears, sees, and speaks daily.
  • Performs repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading.
  • Monitors students in a variety of locations, including environments with noise, high activity, or inclement weather.
  • Performs light lifting (up to 20 lbs.) for tasks such as delivering parcels and setting up for events.
  • Interacts regularly with students, parents, faculty, and staff in a school office environment.
  • Attend occasional events during evening or weekend hours; flexibility and adaptability are essential.
