General DescriptionThe Health Teacher will provide instruction to students in a high school setting. The focus will be on teaching drug and alcohol education courses to students. They will participate as a member of a team and collaborate with other staff to meet the needs of all of the students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Select instructional goals that align with Delaware content standards and the District school’s curricula, ensuring high expectations for all students.
- Plan for learning activities that support student learning and are consistent with the District’s curricula.
- Demonstrate knowledge of content and how to teach it to a variety of learners.
- Apply knowledge of student developmental characteristics, learning approaches, interests, cultural heritage, and State Assessment performance levels.
- Create and/or select assessments that align with instructional goals, criteria, and standards, using formative and summative assessment.
- Manage learning time, transitions, and routines to maximize learning.
- Establish behavioral expectations, monitor student conduct, and respond to behavior effectively.
- Create an atmosphere that values learning and fosters mutual respect in student-student and teacher-student interactions.
- Organize, allocate, and manage physical space to create a safe learning environment and use resources effectively.
- Teach content that is clear, relevant, and linked to student knowledge, engaging all students with appropriate pacing.
- Use a range of instructional strategies and differentiate instruction based on learner characteristics and achievement data.
- Communicate both written and verbally in a clear manner appropriate to students’ ages, backgrounds, and understanding.
- Use questions that match content and student understanding, encouraging student-led discussion.
- Make assessment criteria known, monitor progress, provide feedback, promote self-assessment, and use data to plan instruction.
- Share information about the school’s program and maintain two-way communication with families about student progress, behavior, and needs.
- Select professional development aligned with personal, school, district, or student needs.
- Engage in reflective thinking individually, as a team participant, or as a school community member to improve instruction and learning.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships.

- Experience with Infinite Campus and data management systems, including Google Docs.
