Overview

The State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF) – is currently seeking to fill two (2) full‑time (34 hours per week) first‑shift custodian positions at the Albert J. Solnit Children’s Center – South Campus, Middletown, CT.

- PCN 139289 – 37.5 hours/week, first shift Monday – Friday, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
- PCN 139291 – 37.5 hours/week, first shift Saturday – Wednesday, 7:00 am – 3:00 pm
- Perform all custodial tasks throughout a behavioral health setting, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, stripping, waxing floors, and polishing floors.
- Collect and dispose of trash and recycling in the appropriate containers.
- Use custodial equipment to polish floors and shampoo carpets.
- Clean all classrooms and non‑student areas, including windows and vents.
- Inspect buildings for damage and report conditions to supervisor.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, replacing fuses, lubricating hinges, and removing snow or ice from stairways and walkways.
- Run errands and assist with setting up or breaking down school events and classrooms as needed.
- Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to operate, care for, and perform minor maintenance on custodial tools and equipment.
- Recordkeeping proficiency.
Any experience and training that would provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience performing custodial work in a hospital or institutional setting.
- Experience stripping, waxing, and burnishing floors using floor polishers and buffers.
- Experience setting up and breaking down school events and classrooms.
- Experience keeping high‑traffic areas clean and safe during inclement weather events.
- Experience performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.
Incumbents must have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness to be able to perform the duties of the class. A physical examination may be required.
Working ConditionsIncumbents may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to the risk of injury from equipment and/or individuals.
